Ayushmann Khurrana to play Indian Independence activist Swatantraveer Savarkar in upcoming film?

Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao are reportedly in the running to play Swatantraveer Savarkar in an upcoming film produced by Sandeep Ssingh. Recent reports claim that the film on the Indian Independence activist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar who coined the ideology of Hindutva is in the works on a big scale.

According to Bollywood Hungama, Mahesh Manjrekar has been roped in to direct the project and the makers are on the lookout for a promising performer to shoulder the lead role in this period drama. The report also claims that both Rajkummar and Ayushmann were approached to potentially lead the film.

The makers are, however, leaning towards casting Ayushmann in the project over Rajkummar Rao according to the portal’s source close to the development. The talks are on but nothing has been finalized yet.

Ayushmann in the meantime has his hands full with projects including Abhishek Kapoor’s Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui which will see Vanni Kapoor opposite the actor, Googly with Nushratt Bharrucha, Aanek which will mark his reunion with Anubhav Sinha, remake of the 1976 hit Choti Si Baat and Doctor G which be his reunion with the makers of Badhaai Ho and will be helmed by Anubhuti Kashyap.

Only time will tell if the film on Swatantraveer Savarkar join the atcor’s long list of upcoming projects.
