Bell Bottom actress Vaani Kapoor says well written parts for females are reserved for bigger stars: 'It doesn’t come that easy'

After a small role but significant role in Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff starrer War, Vaani Kapoor is all set to play Akshay Kumar’s wife in the espionage thriller Bell Bottom that releases in theatres tomorrow. While Akshay as the agent on a mission is the center of attention, Vaani Kapoor was questioned about her blink and miss appearance in the film’s much talked about trailer and the actress admitted that the film was not one of the most challenging characters she’s had to play.

Vaani raised another issue and said well written characters in women-centric films are mostly reserved for the bigger actresses who have achieved a certain level of stardom in the industry. She told the Indian Express, “It’s very hard to break into the industry with the right people, the right film and the right production. And on top of that, to get a perfect and well-written part for a female actor, it’s not easy. Yes, there is an emergence of women-driven parts but it’s not that easy. The best ones do go to the bigger, credible actors who’ve already achieved a certain amount of stardom. So, it doesn’t come that easy. Having said that, one’s aim is to reach that (stardom/popularity), which is helped by working with actors like Akshay Kumar who has a massive audience.”

The actress added that people do films for a variety of reasons and reach is one of those suggesting that Bell Bottom is one of those films for her. However, like many other female actors, Vaani to hopes to be a part of big budget projects with meaty roles for her but added that she’s not obsessed with the screen time she gets and believes in making to most of the time she appears on screen.

Talking about Bell Bottom in particular Vaani said that her role is crisp and her character is refreshing and lovely. “Having said that, yes, it’s not the most difficult part for me to play. It was well defined on paper for me to understand what she is or who she is. And it didn’t take a lot of research for me to crack her,” Vaani added.

Bell Bottom also stars Huma Qureshi and Lara Dutta in key roles. It will be the first big budget film to release in cinemas after they reopened post the second Covid-19 wave in the country. Needless to say, all eyes are fixed on the film’s box office performance which would further help the industry plan the release of films stuck since nearly two years.
