Bharat Goel Opens Up About His Latest Track Kamli With Nikhita Gandhi; Shares Opinion On ‘Music Mafia’

Award winning music composer Bharat Goel and singer Nikhita Gandhi recently collaborated for a soulful track titled Kamli, which was created during the lockdown. The single released yesterday and fans are absolutely loving it! The beautiful lyrics penned by Anurag-Deepak, Nikhita’s dreamy voice and the foot tapping music will surely make you play Kamli on a loop! Well, we got in touch with the exceptionally talented Bharat today and in an exclusive chat he opened up about the song, working with Nikhita and the famous nepotism debate.

After starting his own channel and composing two tracks with Believe Digital, Bharat wanted to work on a dance song. As he can’t sit idle for too long, he began work at home amid the lockdown and that’s how Kamli happened. Talking about the track, he shared, “Kamli is a story of a girl who is in awe of a boy, she’s mesmerized. Kamli in Punjabi literally translates to ‘deewani’. So it’s main deewani ho gyi hun, main kamli ho gaiyaan. So she’s mesmerized by this boy and she longs for the day that they can be lovers. It’s actually a very romantic thought, if you think about it, but it’s produced and packaged in a very contemporary, modern electronic music production, dance record.”

So, what makes Nikhita the perfect choice? Bharat explained, “The song required a singer who has not only a very good vocal texture, I needed somebody who could control the emotion that every word required. And what made Nikhita the perfect choice was, she has best of both worlds. She has a brilliant voice texture and at the same time she’s a phenomenal singer with very delicate control on her notes, so she became the perfect choice.” He also revealed that Nikhita recorded the vocal at her own studio and managed to complete recording within 3 days.

Well, Bharat also opened up about the nepotism debate and ‘music mafia’ controversy that began after late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise. Talking about his own experience, he stated, “I have been in the industry now for almost 9-10 years and I’ve had a great working relationship with all companies and labels. I think what is required, in all honesty, is mutual respect. There are two aspects, one is the creative aspect—we are music creators, we handle the creative aspect—and the other aspect is the business aspect, which labels and companies excel in. They have years of experience in music marketing. So while I have complete respect for what they do, they have complete respect for what I do and I have a wonderful working relation. At no point do I feel that the mutual respect has not been there.”

He went on to add, “The second thing is that it’s a business, at the end of the day. No one’s going to want to place a business bet on you unless they actually genuinely believe in your hard work, talent and your content. Content is king. If we as music creators can create content that could help a movie producer or a banner market their film, only and only then are they going to want to place a business bet on us. So at the end of the day if you genuinely have the talent and if you really work hard, and obviously if that mutual respect is there, I don’t think it’s a major issue.”

Well, we wish Bharat Goel all the very best for his upcoming projects and are eagerly waiting to hear his next masterpiece. Also, much to the delight of fans, makers will be working on a proper dance video of Kamli post the lockdown. So excited!
