BMC Asks Bombay HC For Time To Reply To Kangana's Petition, Court's Response Brought Tears To Actress’s Eyes

The Bombay High Court sought Shiv Sena member Sanjay Raut and BMC officer Bhagyawant Late’s response to Kangana Ranaut's petition after the demolition of her office in Mumbai by the BMC On September 9. The demand for response came ahead of the petition hearing on Friday, 25 September.

A bench of Justices S J Kathawalla and R I Chagla asked for Sanjay Raut’s response after Kanagna lawyer submitted a video evidence of the politician threatening the actress. Post this both Sanjay Raut and Bhagyawant Late were made part of the hearing.

Bhagyawant Late the ward H officer of BMC was the one to sign the demolition notice served to Kangana on September 7.

Both Sanjay Raut and Bhagyawant Late asked for more time to file response. Raut who is a Rajya Sabha MP cited the he’s in Delhi and thus needs more time.

Justice Kathawalla gave Sanjay Raut time till his turn for a hearing arrives but turned down Late’s request saying they could not delay the hearing.  The bench said, "We cannot leave the partly demolished house the way it is. The building is demolished partly, and in the heavy monsoon, we cannot leave it in this state. We will start hearing the petitioner tomorrow, you need more time here but otherwise, you are very fast," in the response.

Kangana who seeks Rs 2 crores as damages from the BMC says she had tears in her eyes reading the court’s response. In a tweet she wrote, “Honourable Justice HC, this brought tears to my eyes, in the lashing rains of Mumbai my house is indeed falling apart, you thought about my broken house with so much compassion and concern means a lot to me,my heart is healed thank you for giving me back all that I had lost.”

BMC had claimed Kangana Ranaut had carried out illegal repairs on the property, and had asked the high court to dismiss her plea and to impose a fine.
