Capt. Vikram Batra's brother clarifies the war hero & Dimple Cheema were not engaged, she wanted him to dance at their wedding

The moving biopic on Kargil martyr and Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Vikram Batra has been a huge success. Apart from Sidharth Malhotra's moving performance as the war hero, netizens can’t stop heaping praises on Kiara Advani who played Dimple Cheema, Vikram Batra’s girlfriend.

Dimple in many places has been cited as late Vikram Batra’s fiancée who never got married after his death. The martyr’s twin brother Vishal Batra has, however, clarified that even though Dimple and Vikram wanted to tie the knot, they were not engaged when the latter laid down his life for the nation during the Kargil War in 1999.

While their unfulfilled love story is the talk of the town since Shershaah was released, Vishal Batra also said he and his family tried to convince Dimple to get married after Captain Vikram Batra’s demise.

“Dimple and Vikram were not engaged. It hurts to read wrong reports in the media and I just hope that everyone who matters is reading this and does not do goof-ups in their write-ups hereafter. People who have written that she was his mangetar (fiancée) have just been silly,” Vishal Batra told Times of India.

He also revealed that while the family wanted to get Dimple and Vikram Batra married there had been no engagement. Talking about the last thing Dimple had told him before Vikram Batra died during the Kargil war Vishal said, “I remember Dimple and I were having lunch together, six days before the ill-fated day. She had come to see me off; I was headed to Delhi for some work. She told me: 'Jab Vikram vapas aa jayega toh aap hamari shaadi mein nachoge na?' (After Vikram comes back, you'll dance at our wedding na?). I said, 'Of course, nachunga' (I will definitely dance).”

Vikram Batra lost his life during the Kargil war on 11 July 1999. Shershaah was his code name during the war. The film was released on Amazon Prime Video on 12 August.
