Celina Jaitley On Slipping Into Depression After Losing Parents And Son: “Didn’t Know What I Was Going Through Till I Banged My Car”

Last year had been especially hard for former Miss India and Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley. She witnessed three consecutive deaths in her family. Not only did she lose both her parents, but also lost one of her new born twins. She had not spoken about it until now and also revealed that she slipped into depression.

Talking to TOI about it, she opened up about how she had been broken after the death of her father, then her mother and then one of her new born sons, Shamsher to heart condition. She said, “I slipped into depression after that.” She added that she had been unable to understand what is going on with her till she had a little accident. She said, “I did not know what I was going through till I banged my car while driving one day. After that accident, I realised that something was wrong with me, and that I needed help. My husband, Peter (Haag) was based in Dubai at that time and working at a well-known company. I started taking treatment in Dubai, but it didn’t help. It was then that Peter decided it would be best for me and our family to shift to Austria. Despite having such a lucrative job, he thought that moving to Austria would help me start afresh in a new environment and disconnect from things that were depressing me.”

Well, the decision to move seems to have helped the actress, who said, “My spirits have lifted, I am laughing again. I went through a phase when it was difficult for me to even laugh and joke. I was getting flashbacks of my parents’ last rites again and again. There was a time when it was difficult to deal with my emotions. Having said that, things are better now.”

Well, Celina had been extremely brave to not just talk about something so personal, but also spread awareness about metal issues and the importance of opening up and seeking treatment for it. She recently made her comeback with Season’s Greetings.
