Chehre director Rumi Jaffery on Rhea Chakraborty: "Don’t think the film will suffer because of Rhea’s personal life"

Last year, Indian cinema lovers, audience and fans were left heartbroken after the sudden demise of Sushant Singh Rajput. The young and talented actor was found dead in his Bandra apartment and it was said that he died by suicide. But, the anger of fans was directly targeted at Rhea Chakraborty, who the actor had been dating at that time. His family too accused Rhea and she became the prime suspect in the case. Such was the uproar that many thought her role in the upcoming film Chehre would be chopped. However, they were proven wrong when she was seen in the trailer. Noe, director Rumi Jafeery has opened up about the actress, who was also spotted at his daughter Alfia's Haldi ceremony.

Talking to ETimes, the director admitted that the film might have been affected had it released last year. He said, “I don’t think the film will suffer because of Rhea’s personal life controversy. I will admit that I felt it would have affected the film, had it released last year. Everyone knows what a furore the media caused with the whole Sushant Singh Rajput case and Rhea’s arrest. Last year, she was a ‘witch’, a ‘golddigger’ and whatnot; this year she was declared as the 'most desirable woman'. This shows there has been a change in the perception of people. So, I really don’t feel the film will have an adverse effect because of what happened with Rhea last year”.

Speaking highly about Rhea, Rumi added, “Rhea is a great human being. She comes from a good family. When you will see her in ‘Chehre’, you will see how good an actor she is. She has a very different role in the movie. She has done complete justice to the role.”

Chehre is now all set to release on 27th August in theatres. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi in the lead, along with Raghubir Yadav, Dhritiman Chatterjee, Annu Kapoor, and Krystle D’Souza in pivotal roles.
