Comedian Daniel Fernandes Apologises After Backlash For Stand Up On Sushant's Death, But Only For A Factual Error

Sushant Singh Rajput fans didn’t find it to be a matter worth laughing at when comedian Daniel Fernandes in his recent gig decided to joke about the aftermath of the actor’s death. The comedian was bashed by these SSR fans on social media forcing him to issue an apology for poking fun at the actor’s death and the subsequent media trial and Rhea Chakraborty’s arrest.

The actor passed away in his Mumbai-based apartment on June 14 and following his demise, his fans started a whole social media movement demanding justice. The stand-up by Daniel titled ‘Sushant Singh Rajput’ did not sit well fans and he received severe backlash on social media. Fans even called him out for alleging that Rhea Chakraborty has been acquitted in the matter pointing out she’s merely out on bail.

“This moron #DanielFernandes thinks #RheaChakraborty has been acquitted by Bombay HC & CBI has closed case after AIIMS PM report concluding SSR death a suicide. Someone tell this woke illiterate diff b/w bail & acquittal,” wrote a user demanding Daniel’s stand up video be reported. Another wrote, “One star who was brutally killed n we r fighting for his justice relentlessly thinking about his old aged father who lost his only son is a fun to this attention sicker comedian.”

After several the backlash on his January 11 stand up, Daniel issued on apology addressing Sushant’s fans and wrote -

“My recent stand-up video appears to have offended a lot of fans of the late Sushant Singh Rajput, many of who have pointed out an apology is in order and I agree!

As a comedian, my only intention is always only to entertain you and make you laugh, but sometimes in that endeavour, it is possible that I might evoke an unfavourable response.

That being said, I would like to address my mistake. Towards the end of this bit, I said that Rhea has been acquitted of her charges. That is factually incorrect. She has been released on bail. For some weird reason, I used the word 'acquitted' by mistake in the Pune show. It is definitely not how I have written or performed it elsewhere. I take that back and apologize to anyone whose feelings may have been hurt.

Also, through an editing oversight, one of my favourite jokes from this set got left out of the final cut. To fix this, I will upload a new version of this video with that joke next week.

I stand by everything else I said."

Daniel’s apology was followed by another post explaining the meaning of satire and another meme on social media accounts with Sushant’s pictures that having been issuing threats to anyone opposing them.
