    Confirmed: Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi to finally release on Diwali after theatres in Maharashtra reopen next month

    The makers of Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi have become the first film to set a release date hours after the Maharashtra government announced the re-opening of cinemas in the state on October 22. The action extravaganza from Rohit Shetty’s cop universe has been the longest delayed film in Bollywood since the nation went into a lockdown in March 2020 days ahead of its originally scheduled release date.

    Sooryavanshi has locked Diwali 2021, 5 November for release in November two weeks after the official reopening of theatres in Maharashtra. The news of Sooryavanshi’s arrival was confirmed by Akshay through a post. Many films have waited for cinemas in the state to re-open to schedule a release date for their projects and many more release date announcements can be expected in the days ahead.

    Another much awaited film is Ranveer Singh’s ’83 directed by Kabir Khan. Since both Sooryavanshi and the sports drama are backed by Reliance fans can soon expect a release date for the 1983 Cricket World Cup based film to be announced too. Sooryavanshi also stars Ranveer and Ajay Devgn reprising their roles as Simmba and Singham respectively.

    Another biggie lined up for Diwali in Indian cinemas this year is Marvel’s Eternals. The Hollywood offering stars  Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, and Kit Harrington.
