Coronavirus Effect: Irrfan Khan, Kareena Kapoor Starrer Angrezi Medium To Re-Release Later Post Theatre Shutdown

Irrfan Khan’s film, Angrezi Medium, was one of the highly awaited films of the year. Fans had been waiting to see the actor on the big screen and had been excited when the film was pushed ahead for a March release. But what had not been anticipated was the outbreak of coronavirus and the mass shutdown as a measure to contain it.

The direct hit of the shutdown of theatres has come on Angrezi Medium. The film couldn’t release in Delhi and had just a few shows in Mumbai, the two major circuits that contribute to the biz of the film. And due to the shutdown, the makers have decided to re release the film. The director of the film, Homi Adjania has written in his Insta story, “At midnight all theaters will be close across India till authorities give us further notice. We will re-release #AngreziMedium when it is safe to do so. Till then stay safe and be kind to each other. #johaisohai.”

Dinesh Vijan has also revealed why they stuck to the decision of not altering the release date despite a shutdown of cinema halls in Delhi on Thursday. He said, “We had no option as the film had already opened in the UAE-GCC market on Thursday, when the Chief Minister of Delhi (Arvind Kejriwal) announced shutdown of theatres later in the day. Had we known three-four days ago that this would happen, we might have had time to rethink the release, but on Thursday, it was too late to pull back.”
