Deepika Might Play Dacoit Queen Roopmati In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra; Shoot To Begin In 2022

A few months ago it was reported that actress Deepika Padukone has turned down three offers from filmmaker and good friend Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The two worked together in three super hit projects and were on great terms with each other. However, DP reportedly was upset that Alia Bhatt was his second choice for Gangubai Kathiawadi after global icon Priyanka Chopra. Well contrary to the rumors, latest reports now suggest that the actress may join hands with Bhansali once again for his much awaited musical, Baiju Bawra.

In a report shared by Pinkvilla, a source revealed, “Ever since Bhansali decided to revisit Baiju Bawra, he was clear on getting Deepika on board the film to play the role of dacoit queen, Roopmati, from the 1952 original. Both Deepika and SLB have done multiple meetings to discuss the film and the character and the talks are in the advanced stage at the moment. The paperwork is yet to be done and things will be locked once both the stakeholders mutually agree on certain aspects. Given the way things are proceeding at the moment, it's going to be a yes from DP.”

The shoot will go on floors by Mid-2022 and other than Roopmati, the story will feature four more key characters. The source further shared that while Bhansali is busy with the post production of Gangubai Kathiawadi, he has a team taking care of the prep work for Baiju Bawra. An official announcement will be made when the complete cast is locked. Rumors had earlier suggested that Ranbir Kapoor may portray the role of Baiju, but he later denied the reports. Guess we’ll just have to wait for the announcement.
