Veteran actress Rita Bhaduri passed away today at the age of 62 leaving the film and television industry in a state of shock. She passed away in Mumbai owing to kidney-related complications. She was last seen playing Imarti Devi in the hit show Nimki Mukhiya.

In a career spanning about 40 years she has given us innumerable characters to remember her by and has played a mother or a grandmother to all the leading stars of today and even yesteryears.

But very few people would remember her playing the female lead opposite big stars in Hindi as well as regional cinema.

You might know her as the quintessential mom or dadi, but back in her days she played the lead opposite none other than superstar Kamal Hassan that too in one of his regional debut.

After working as a child artist, south superstar Kamal Hassan debuted in Malayalam movies with the film Kanyakumari in 1974. He was paired opposite Rita Bhaduri who was a fresh face at the time and played the role of Parvathi. The film went on to do remarkably well and Kamal Hassan also won a Filmfare award for the same. Doesn’t she look absolutely unrecognizable in the picture?
