Sridevi was the ruling queen of Bollywood from the early 90s to the end of the decade. There were many actresses who wanted that kind of an aura on the big screen. Contemporaries like Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla were always reported by the media to be competing with her in terms of grabbing more limelight!

However, she was the only one who could dictate the terms of Bollywood in her time. Well, one such instance has been illustrated in a biography penned by Satyarth Nayak – Sridevi: The Eternal Screen Goddess.

While speaking to Pankuj Parashar who had directed Sriji in Chaalbaaz, it was revealed that Sri’s ‘Manju’ character in the film according to him was one of the most progressive heroines of Indian celluloid. Chalbaaz had Sridevi, Rajinikanth and Sunny Deol in the lead roles.

Pankaj has stated, Sridevi was equally mighty in her real life and that it was she who suggested Sunny Deol’s name for the film. The director of Chaalbaaz has been quoted as saying, “It was Sridevi who suggested Sunny Deol’s name. She was the only actress of her time who could dictate who her hero would be. Sunny had not been too keen to play this small part and would often joke on the sets that his role should be credited as a guest appearance. If I ever shot his close-ups he would quip, ‘Aaj Maai nahi aayi hai kya?’ (Hasn’t the goddess reported to the shoot today?).
