Do You Know The Reason Why There Was No Ocean's 14 But An Ocean's 8

Do You Know The Reason Why There Was No Ocean's 14 But An Ocean's 8

In 2001, Steven Soderbergh brought us Ocean's 11, which soon went on to become one of the most successful films of the year and set a benchmark for the future generation of heist films to come. Ocean's 11 was itself a remake of the 1960 film of the same name which featured some of the top actors of the 60s. The pack was fondly referred to as the Rat Pack and consisted of big names like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.

Getting an all-ensemble cast featuring big names wasn't easy as actors Mike Myers, Bruce Willis, Ralph Fiennes, Johnny Depp, Owen and Luke Wilson dropped out and their roles were filled in by the eventual cast members. While others demanded a hefty sum which wasn't possible for such a big multi-star film, others dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Ocean's 11 was released on 7th December 2001 and met with positive reviews.

After the commercial success of the first one, part 2 and 3 followed which featured additional cast members and were also commercially successful. With such a successful franchise on its hands, it was obvious that Warner Bros. would soon commence the next instalment officially but it never came into being. And now 11 years later, after the release of Ocean's 13, we are getting Ocean's 8. Do you know the reason why there was no Ocean's 14 or whatever happened to that film?

    We'll tell you why...

Bernie Mac, the charismatic actor who played the role of Frank Catton was an integral part of the Ocean Series cast and one of the reasons why the series did so well. He tragically passed away in 2008 due to a cardiac arrest which resulted from pneumonia. He was suffering from Sarcoidosis during the final years of his life.

Out of respect for Bernie Mac's legacy, George Clooney stated in an interview that there would be no further sequel as Bernie isn't with them anymore.

Which brings us to Ocean's 8...

Producer Jerry Weintraub, Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney decided to give a different spin to the series by having an all female-led ensemble leading a different film existing in the same Ocean's Universe. Sandra Bullock was chosen as the lead, Danny Ocean's sister, who forms her own gang to rob at the Met Gala in New York. The film releases this Friday in India.
