When Karan Johar had announced Dostana 2 with Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor, fans were super excited to see the two actors together in the quirky romantic comedy. However, things didn’t work out and Kartik was later dropped from the project. Makers blamed creative differences and began their hunt for a replacement. Many names started doing the rounds including that of Rajkummar Rao, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Siddhant Chaturvedi. Buzz also suggested that KJo has personally requested Akshay Kumar to come onboard.

Well, the latest report shared by Bollywood Hungama suggests that there is a special reason why the filmmaker wants Akshay to headline his project. A source was quoted saying, “Karan Johar wants an outsider to avoid any insider vs outsider debate giving a rebirth to nepotism. Hence the first choice is Akshay. But if things don't work out, he will move ahead to explore the collaboration with other actors. Of the 5 shortlisted names, 4 are outsiders and hence, a safe bet at the moment. The core idea is to get an outsider replaced by an outsider.” Now that’s quite a surprise.
