Sushant Singh Rajput Case: Rhea's Brother Showik Chakraborty's Judicial Custody Extended Till November 3

The Narcotics Control Bureau had earlier arrested actor Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty in a drug probe related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case. Recently, Rhea was granted bail by the Bombay High Court after spending nearly a month in the Byculla jail. Meanwhile, her brother Showik continued to remain in judicial custody as his custody was extended till October 20. On Tuesday, Showik’s bail plea was heard. The special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act court extended Showik’s judicial custody till November 3, 2020 along with other accused who were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with the drug nexus related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.  First Showik’s bail plea was rejected by NDPS court and then later Bombay High court.

Showik Chakraborty was arrested on September 4 and remained in NCB custody till September 9. He was later remanded in judicial custody and since then he has been in jail. Showik was arrested based on the statement made by drug peddler Abdel Basit Parihar who claimed that he used to procure drugs from arrested accused Zaid Vilatra and Kaizan Ebrahim.NCB also stated that Showik revealed the names of several Bollywood celebs and drug peddlers who were involved in the drug nexus.

As per his statement to the NCB, Showik revealed that he used to “facilitate the delivery of drugs through Parihar by Ebrahim and Zaid”. “These deliveries used to be received by aids of Rajput and every delivery and payment was in conscious knowledge of Rhea and even some times payments and choice of drugs were confirmed by her,” his statement added.

Earlier, in a statement Rhea and Showik’s mother, Sandhya Chakraborty mentioned how the family has been coping up with these difficult times. She talked about how it’s a sigh of relief for her as Rhea is out of jail, “While it’s a relief she’s out of prison, it’s crazy it’s still not over. My son is still behind bars and I’m paranoid about what tomorrow will bring. I can’t sleep on the bed anymore when my children are suffering in jail. I can’t eat. I wake up in the middle of the night, gripped by a fear of the next thing that could go wrong,” she explained.
