Emraan Hashmi And Rishi Kapoor Pair Up For The Body: Will The Film Join Badla, Gupt And Kahaani Amongst Top Suspense Thrillers?

The promo of The Body has released and made a good impression already. The case of a 'missing body' does sound pretty interesting with Emraan Hashmi yet again getting into a grey avtar while Rishi Kapoor is stepping in as a detective who has a job in hand to crack the case. While one waits to check out what the film has to truly offer, it would be interesting to see if The Body finds a spot amongst some of the most exciting suspense films. While some such thrillers have worked, a few haven't really been commercial successes. However, each of these has left a mark for sure.

Let's take a look.

Gupt - 18 crores

The 'baap' of all suspense thrillers stays on to be Gupt. No one, just no one could guess that Kajol was the murderer and hence when this Rajiv Rai directed film released, there was premium on the suspense not to be revealed. A major hit back then, this Bobby Deol and Manisha Koirala led film was technically brilliant and also boasted of chartbuster music.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa - 50 crores

This could well have turned out to be just another horror-suspense-thriller but director Priyadarshan paired up with Akshay Kumar to ensure that there was good comic element as well. As a result, audiences were entertained right through the narrative of Bhool Bhulaiyaa. As for the suspense element, it was seamlessly integrated into the story which worked wonders for all.

Kahaani - 59 crores

Before Badla, Sujoy Ghosh had proven his mettle as the master storyteller of suspense films with Kahaani. 'What you see is definitely not what you get' could well have been the 'mantra' that he followed for his Vidya Balan starrer where truth didn't really meet the eye and the big revelation made everyone gasp with amazement. A true classic entertainer by all means.

Badla - 87.99 crores

If there is one film after Gupt that has actually found maximum footfalls when it comes to suspense thriller, it is Badla. Sujoy Ghosh didn't do wonders with his Kahaani 2 but was back to keeping audiences at the edge of the seat with Badla. Though a remake, it was Indianised in a big way. As for the performances, Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu nailed it big time.

Kaun - 4 crores

One of the most authentic suspense films of the modern era, Kaun was made by Ram Gopal Varma at the time when he was at his prime. The Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpayee and Sushant Singh starrer was quite literally an edge of the seat suspense thriller where silences and background score did the trick and innovative camerawork carried forward the narrative.

Ittefaq - 30.21 crores

Just like Kaun, even Ittefaq (remake of the namesake Rajesh Khanna starrer) was set within the four walls of a house. Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha came together in this suspense thriller that had Akshaye Khanna in a key role. Of course since it was a modern day adaptation, a twist in the tale was pretty much on the cards, something that surprised many in the end.

Bhoot - 15 crores

After Kaun, Urmila Matondkar featured in yet another suspense thriller Bhoot where she imagined a 'bhoot' inside her apartment. Ram Gopal Varma defied norms by establishing that a ghost can make an appearance in day as well and not just the night. Ajay Devgn, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar and Rekha top-lined the cast too which had the big suspense revelation at the end.

13B - 8 crores

As is the trend, most of the suspense films are set in a house and also have an horror element integrated in there. This was the case with 13B as well and this time around it was a television set in a house which made way for an evil spirit to attack the occupants. Madhavan was quite good in this well made horror suspense thriller which had a modest run.

Raaz - 22 crores

Other than Ram Gopal Varma, one filmmaker who has a mastery over suspense-horror-thriller genre is Vikram Bhatt. In the recent past, he has made quite a few films in this genre, though the one that started it all was Raaz. Set in an isolated mansion on the hillside, this Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea starrer was powered by wonderful music too and emerged a Blockbuster.

Talvar - 31 crores

Rarely are there suspense films which don't have a horror element incorporated in them and Talvar is one such film. Based on the real life story of Arushi Talwar's murder, it had director Meghna Gulzar raise many pertinent questions about what would have happened that fateful night. Irrfan Khan was as real as it gets in this film which had Konkona Sen play the mother.
