Popular South filmmaker Shankar has landed in trouble due to plagiarism charges he is facing since the release of his film Enthiran back in 2010. A Metropolitan Magistrate Court II in Egmore, Chennai, has now issued a non-bailable warrant against the filmmaker for failing to appear before the court despite several notices issued in ration to the case.

Writer Arur Tamilnadan soon after the release of Enthiran, starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai, had accused Shankar of plagiarism claiming the plot of the film was entirely based on his story 'Jiguba' which was first published in 1996 in a magazine and was later re-published in a novel 'Dhik Dhik Deepika Dheepika' in 2007.

The writer claims that the makers of the film reaped huge financial gains after violating the copyrights with the success of the film. Over the years despite repeated notices filmmaker Shankar refused to appear before the court resulting in the issued warrant. The court has for now adjourned the hearing on the case till February 19.

Enthiran was a Tamil language film was dubbed in Hindi and released as Robot and in Telugu as Robo. The movie become India’s highest grossing film at the time. No member of the cast or crew of the film has so far reacted to this copyright complaint.
