EXCLUSIVE: I Made 377 AbNormal Because It Was The Most Potent Subject That Concerned Humanity, Says Producer Ajit Arora

Ajit Arora was born and raised in Mumbai, however, he has his office and house in California. The producer of the ZEE5 original 377 AbNormal was always passionate to start into the film industry. Finally, it happened a year ago. He revealed, “It is a completely a passion-driven business for me, I want to make a mark with the best content possible and it should also have the best treatment. Speaking of his original film he said, in spite of other subjects and scripts, he went with 377 because it mattered to him and the world! Quipped he, “There were so many scripts before 377 AbNormal which were relevant. Luckily after the verdict, I thought it was the most potent subject. It was a landmark verdict, concerns the human being.”

There are a number of OTT platforms in the market today but Arora was geared up about Zee5 because he thought the platform had much more reach! Quipped he, “ZEE5 caters to 160 countries. Netflix is there in so many more countries but ZEE5 knows the pulse of the Hindi speaking people. The market share of Netflix in India is hardly 2 percent right now. Therefore, if you are making a movie and then you put it up on Netflix then only two percent of the population will watch it, on the contrary when Zee has such a huge network, we wouldn’t we capitalise on that? We didn’t approach Netflix or Amazon Prime. ZEE5 was very keen to get into this vertical and because We and ZEE5 know each other, it felt more than right for us to go ahead with ZEE5.

Arora revealing more about the title of his OTT film said, it was really hard for them especially in a country like India which still has to evolve with the idea of the LGBT community. “We all know, we might have friends who are in the closet, I personally feel this section 377 going away is a boon to mankind. You can’t imprison a guy based on what he eats, wears or where he sleeps, that is not normal. We toggled our head to get the title of the film. We are very proud to have this. It is in the evolving stage; people will gradually take it.

Arora further asserted that he is not at all comfortable sticking t only one genre and he believes in experimenting. Quipped he, “I don’t want to stick to one genre, I am capable enough to make different subjects but right now we are working on the concept of a common man and his journey. There is also a sequel happening of 377 ab-normal!”
