EXCLUSIVE: It’s Been A Year Since Aniruddh Pathak’s Shankaracharya Is Shelved; Bhagyashree, Rajit Kapur Reveal!

Daastan-e-Ishq tells the story of Salim and Anarkali and their tumultuous love affair that came under the strong arm of Baadshah Akbar. The film Mughal-e-Azam was a huge hit amongst the mass. The film is applauded even today. It starred Dilip Kumar and the eternal beauty Madhubala in the roles of Salim and Anarkali and Actor Prithviraj Kapoor played the role of Emperor Akbar. Decades have passed since and yet the magic of this K.Asif magnum opus is still fresh and burning. Writers’ Galaxy then took the same concept and with Shaheer Sheikh and Sonarika Bhadoria in the lead roles adapted the story for the small screen. The series is now being aired on Colors and is said to be one of the costliest shows on the tube.  

There were also strong rumours of the production house i.e. Writers’ Galaxy backing out of the show and Contiloe coming in on board to take it further due to shortage of funds with the former.

And now, the latest is something almost on the similar lines – The difference being the former news hasn’t been confirmed but this one surely is.

For a long time now, Writers’ Galaxy is due for its show called Shankaracharya. The show was locked for Star Plus. The series would be depicting the life and times of the Adi Guru. Big names were doing the rounds as the cast of the show. However, what is shocking is nothing is being finalised and it is already MORE THAN A YEAR!

Desimartini got in touch with the producer of the show Aniruddh Pathak who is currently abroad. He didn’t seem much excited for the show in question. Quipped he, “I am not producing the show all by myself. The show is being co-produced by me along with Dr B K Modi of Smart Studios. “On prodding further about the launch dates for the series and the length of it, he said “It is too early to talk about it.”

When we got in touch with Actress Bhagyashree who is also supposed to be playing a crucial part in the series, the actress revealed, “It has been such a long time since we had once shot for the show but later on, nothing quite happened with it. The producers of the show never contacted me after that. I don’t even know whether the show is even happening. It must be some channel dispute or some other matter.”

But we did realise just talking to one person wouldn’t be enough to get to the crux of the matter, so we got in touch with actor Rajit Kapur who reaffirmed whatever Bhagyashree told us. He disclosed, “We had shot for the pilot one year ago and since then, there has been no communication with us with regards to the show. God knows what it is wrong with it.”

We also got in touch with actor Amit Khanna who said the same thing, “I shot for the pilot for the series a year ago with Vidya Malvade. I play the character of Madan Mishra, a Hindu saint who greatly influence Adi Shankara’s early life. After the pilot shoot I have never been contacted by the producers again. It has been one whole year and I am eagerly waiting to hear from the producers. I wish the series goes on the floors soon.”
