EXCLUSIVE: Friend Of Saand Ki Aankh Director, Kunal Kapoor Reacts To Neena Gupta And Soni Razdan Sparking Up Ageism Debate

There has been a lot of hullaballoo about the film based on Shooter Dadis which has been named Saand Ki Aankh. The film has been directed by Tushar Hiranandani and has been jointly produced by Anurag Kashyap and Reliance Entertainment. The film features actors Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles.

Recently, actress Neena Gupta conjured up a storm on social media by taking to the social media and stating that roles that belong to their age-group should at least be given to them. She wrote, “Yes I was just thinking about this hamari umar ke role toe kamse kam humse kara lo bhai.” This statement was in response to a Twitter user who pointed out that the film could have used, a Jaya Bachchan or a Neena Gupta or a Shabana Azmi. Even actress Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan too pointed out the same thing.

Now during an exclusive conversation with actor Kunal Kapoor who has been a close aide to the director of the film for a long time reacted to the whole issue, he clearly feels it is completely the lookout of the director who is directing the film and the producer who is chipping in the money.

Quipped he, “That’s the prerogative of the director or the producer. I am sure when you are making a film and you are investing so much money and time into it… I know Tushar and Tushar has been working on this script for almost 5 years now. When a director has put in so much work into the film, he knows what is best for a film. When the producer is putting so much money into it, I think they are the best people to know what is best for their film. It is completely the prerogative of the director or the producer whoever they choose to be part of the film. I am sure they must have thought it through and they must have considered all the options that were available, before making this decision.
