Exclusive- Toofaan actor Hussain Dalal on positive change in industry: “Writers have learnt to respect themselves”

Hussain Dalal is not only a gifted writer, but also an exceptionally talented actor. He has proven the same once again in his latest film Toofaan. Helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the sports drama stars Farhan Akhtar in the lead as a national level boxer named Aziz Ali aka Ajju Bhai. Well, Hussain has beautifully portrayed the role of his on-screen best friend Munna. Their friendship bloomed off-screen as well and Hussain had a gala time on the sets. The track Star Hai Tu, which features the two actors and their bond in the film, is also garnering lots of love from all over the internet. Well, Desimartini got in touch with Hussain recently to talk about the film, his character and the industry.

When asked if he sees a positive change for writers in the industry, Hussain replied, “There is a massive positive change. But let me tell you one small fun fact-- I started writing 7-8 years ago. I feel main tabse dekh raha hun toh main toh achhi industry hi dekh raha hun. You know what I’m saying? I feel like since my first day as a writer I’ve gotten the love and respect. I also feel like the industry does respect its writers, you know it does respect writers and also the time of writers. Waqt badalta hai naa.” He further stated, “So, that has also happened. Toh I’m saying ki, in a metaphorical way, chhaata toh hum 200 saal se bech rahe the, aaj kal baarish bohot ho rahi hai. Bohot baarish ho rahi hai toh bohot chhaate bikenge.”

Hussain explained, “Chhaate toh hum bohot saalo se bech rahe the, ab baarish zyaada ho rahi hai. Toh isliye log bol rahe hain arre chhaate waale ko izzat do.. hum toh chhaate kab se bech rahe the. So woh bhi hai, it’s everything and I think the industry really respects its writers all the time and I think writers also have learnt to respect themselves, which is a big thing. That’s also happened. Toh achha hi ho raha hai sab.”
