It would not be an exaggeration to say that Sooryavansham is somewhat a legend. The film, despite tanking at the box-office has achieved a cult status on television, thanks to Set Max that must have aired the film a zillion times.

In fact, it has become quite a running joke and has even got people frustrated over Set Max for constantly shoving it down our throats. However, that is not at all the case. As the film turned 20 years, a fan on Twitter explained how the film is aired repeatedly not because Sony is partial to it but because it actually fetched good ratings every time it is aired. He also submitted ratings data and statistics to prove his point.

Interestingly, the post was retweeted by Amitabh Bachchan himself who of course agreed with the what the fan has to say.

And, he is not wrong either. In 2016, the satellite premiere of Saala Khadoos and Kapoor and Sons clashed with Sooryavansham on television, but Sooryavansham was still the second most viewed which goes to prove that the film still fetches the channel numbers.
