Farhan Akhtar on being chased around about Don 3

Farhan Akhtar says he's asked about Don 3 when he shares a condolence post: 'Arey woh sab chodiye Don 3 kab bana rahe ho?'

One of the biggest successes of Farhan Akthar’s career in Bollywood so far has been his remake of the Salim Javed written 1978 film Don which originally starred Amitabh Bachchan. Farhan managed to re-invent the character in his 2006 film Don with Shah Rukh Khan and which also got a blockbuster sequel later with Don 2. Now the actor-filmmaker is chased with the question about Don 3 everywhere he goes.

Farhan made an appearance on Arbaaz Khan’s chat show Pinch where he spoke about how Amitabh Bachchan’s character in Don left a lasting impact on him even though he was only four when the film was released originally.

Farhan Akhtar says he's asked about Don 3 when he shares a condolence post: 'Arey woh sab chodiye Don 3 kab bana rahe ho?'

When Arbaaz asked him about it, Farhan said, “As far as Don is concerned I was a big fan of Mr. Bachchan. I remember when I had watched the film Don, the first character where he plays Don, I got scared of that guy. ‘This is my hero and he’s such a scary, vicious, mean violent person,’ so that had stayed with me in my head for a long time. Then there were the characters of the film, there’s modernity in the screenplay itself. I told Zoya, Don is such an amazing film and it will translate so well in today’s times, someone should make the film. She said, ‘I should just remind you that you are a director too. Why don’t you make it?’ I said it sounds like a good idea.”

Talking about giving the story a new twist Farhan added, “Then I thought would have to do something new. So then I remembered there was this character of Don made me really scared. That was a magnetic character and the dialogue ‘Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi na mumkin hai’. I wanted to give that character and dialogue a new meaning, where it is literally impossible to catch him, not just for the characters in the film but for the audience too.” The filmmaker added, “In the end when he gets away, you feel the weight of the dialogue.”

Akhtar spoke about being constantly chased on social media by fans who want to know when Don 3 will release and said when he posts condolences on social media he gets comments like ‘arey who chodiye, Don 3 kab bana rahe ho.’

Farhan also hilariously commented on how the question of Don 3 has altered his relationship with his followers on social media. “Now there’s a love-hate relationship of the social media users with me. They know if Don 3 is made I will have to make it but now they are so upset that for so long it has not been made that they write, ‘Yaar please give me Don 3 m*/b*’” Farhan said.

All said and done, the filmmaker who will be helming Jee Le Zara next still didn’t share any plans about directing Don 3.
