Fatima Sana Sheikh Reveals She Was Dropped From Projects After Thugs Of Hindostan: It Breaks Your Heart, Breaks Your Soul

What could have turned out to be Bollywood biggest film in history, Thugs of Hindostan, in turn became the industry’s biggest dud and no doubt that had consequences. The failure of the film in 2018, starring Aamir Khan, led to the cast of the film facing difficult times ahead and it wasn’t just because of the audience dissing the movie. Actress Fatima Sana Sheikh who was a part of this mega project has now opened up about what the film’s failure at the box office meant for her career.

Talking to journalist and film critic Rajiv Masand Fatima said, “Of course, the failure of Thugs of Hindostan was a big blow to me. After Dangal, everything was new- the fame, the applause, and suddenly there were abuses. It was a little shocking and I felt my career was over because I was dropped out of some films."

The actress furthered her point saying that the failure of Thugs led her to question herself as it also meant her not getting desirable work and making her peace with it. “And then you feel whether you'll get work or not. And you also don't want to compromise on the kind of work that you want to do, you don't want to be a part of certain kind of films. And then you make those choices and then fear 'Am I in that position to make those choices?' And that also means I'll not be working for the next one year."

Fatima instead chose to settle with the fact that even if it meant doing one film in a year she’d rather do that than force herself to be a part of projects she wouldn’t like to do. Talking about Thugs of Hindostan getting bashed she said she was heartbroken.

She added, “It breaks your heart, breaks your soul. Especially because it has taken a lot of time to get into this industry. Dangal doesn't happen very often, you don't get an opportunity to be a part of a film like that. I am thanking my stars and I was clear that if the film failed, I wouldn't have left the industry, because it has taken years of struggle to get into this industry."

The actress is now gearing up for two Diwali releases in November 2020 including the multi-starrer Ludo directed by Anurag Basu and Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari starring Diljeet Dosanjh and Manoj Bajpayee.
