FWICE Condemns Hospital After Video Of Rishi Kapoor's Final Moments Goes Viral, Say Violates Actor's Right To Dignified Death

Rishi Kapoor passed away in Mumbai on the morning of April 30 after battling Leukemia for two years. Several fans shared messages, video and photos of the actor sending heartfelt condolences to the family and mourning the loss of the veteran actor on social media.

Amidst those posts was a video of the actor lying in the hospital bed in his final moments which was seemingly shot by a member the hospital staff without consent from the actor's family and was circulated widely on social media.

While the video was widely circulated as being actor’s last day at the hospital before his passing it isn’t verified when it was shot or who the singer in the video is. Rishi was admitted to HN Reliance hospital and was in the ICU after he complained of breathlessness.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees chief Ashoke Pandit has slammed the HN Reliance Hospital for not having regulations in place that preserve a patient’s privacy.

Pandit in a shared a later that condemned the hospital authorities and wrote in tweet, "@fwice_mum raises protest over viral video of #RishiKapoor ji in ICU at HN hospital. The video is unethical -without permission & violates fundamental right to live with dignity-privacy of a legend who lived a glorious & dignified life& loved, regarded, held in high esteem by all."

The Federation has asked the hospital to enquire on the matter and produce findings stating what measures will be taken to prevent this from happening in the future and also taking action against those responsible in 15 days. If they fail to do so Pandit said that they would initiate legal action.

The letter always draws attention to the fact that this has also happened in the past with actor Vinod Khanna and condemned such incidents where celebrity patients are 'subjected to infringement of their fundamental right to die with dignity'.

The hospital too took note of the video and condemned its circulation online writing, "It has come to our attention that a video of one of our patients is surfacing on digital media platforms. At Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, patient confidentiality and privacy is of utmost importance to us and we strongly condemn such actions. The hospital management is investigating the incident and strict action will be taken against the perpetrators."
