Game Of Thrones Prequel Is Officially Greenlit! Here's Everything You Need To Know

When the very first episode of Game of Thrones titled 'Winter is Coming" aired in 2011, the massively popular MCU was just 3 films old, DC Comics was still popular as people eagerly waited for the final film of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy before Zack Snyder butchered the DC Universe and Charlie Sheen had just been fired from the popular sitcom 2 and a Half Men.

Also, Breaking Bad was in full swing as it raked in awards after awards while The Walking Dead was just one season old and Entourage was in its last season. No one would have thought that Game of Thrones would go on to become such a huge global phenomenon. While the series of books by George RR Martin was popular amongst the geeks and fans of fantasy series, the TV adaptation by creators David Benioff and DB Weiss soon became one of the most watched shows and the most pirated show on the planet.

The wars between different clans in order to take the reigns of the Seven Kingdoms and the massive Iron Throne have given the audiences numerous fan-favorite characters who have also died painful deaths which have become the show's USP. The series will air its last season next year in 2019. But for the fans of the show who were thinking how they would fill the void left by Game of Thrones, we have some good news. The prequel series before the events of GoT has been officially greenlit by HBO. Here's everything you need to know:

Creators: The show has been created by Jane Goldman and George RR Martin. While Martin has written the Song of Ice and Fire saga, Jane Goldman is known for producing and writing projects like Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class etc. Jane will also serve as the showrunner.

Official synopsis:  "Taking place thousands of years before the events of 'Game of Thrones,' the series chronicles the world's descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros's history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend … it's not the story we think we know."

Locations: Just like Game of Thrones, the prequel is expected to be shot at worldwide locations as the channel is planning to invest a lot of money on this project as well.

What is Age of Heroes?

Going by Martin's books on GoT series, the age of heroes began 10000 years before the events of GoT. Some of the major characters are Lann the Clever, the founder of House Lannister and Bran the Builder, who founded House Stark and oversaw the construction of the Wall and Winterfell. The events led to the long night, the winter lasted a generation while the greatest battle against the white walkers was fought. 

Title and Expected Debut: The show is currently untitled and it is expected to debut in 2020 as GoT will finish its run in 2019.
