Harsh Varrdhan on battling perception of being a star kid

Harsh Varrdhan feels being Anil Kapoor's son people expected him to do Bollywood masala films: 'How come he didn’t do this?'

Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor spoke about battling perceptions during a recent interview and how people assume certain things about him just because he is Anil Kapoor’s son. The actor is working on changing people’s minds with his project choices and feels that after works like Bhavesh Joshi and Ray it has already begun happening.

“When you don’t have an insight into what a person is like, you are more likely to make assumptions about that person. Because I haven’t been a big part of the paparazzi culture, I have not done mainstream Bollywood masala films and I am not in the limelight a lot, I have decided to not take my career in that direction from the start,” told Bollywood Bubble during an interview.

Talking about people having a certain image of him because he is the son of a Bollywood actor he added, “I think it’s like, ‘oh he’s Anil Kapoor’s son but how come he didn’t do this, how come he didn’t do that?’”

While Harsh Varrdhan managed to turn around some of the biased opinions he has had to face with performances in films like Bhavesh Joshi and his recent projects like Spotlight and AK vs. AK, the actor said what he hasn’t done that one massy film yet. “I still haven’t had that one film that has reached out to millions of people like an ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani’, or a ‘Ram Leela’ or ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’. Because I am Anil Kapoor’s son that is the expectation. It’s like Varun has done so many of those films did one October and is going back and doing more of those films. For me, I have done four or five Octobers, in terms of the reach that particular film has.”

Having said that Harsh Varrdhan also admitted that he now has one eye on opportunities that will help him reach a wider audience.
