'I Used To Come Home And Cry', Aamir Khan Recalls How He Was Called A 'One Film Wonder' When His Films Failed Post Debut

Aamir Khan is looked up to as inspiration in cinema by millions of his fans and the member s of the industry alike. With his choice of films and passion for serving his audiences the very best of stories, the superstar has managed to stay relevant even with no films a year or just one most years.

Recently while attending the convocation at Bennett University the actor revealed what made him become the perfectionist that he is so fondly called today in Bollywood, even if it meant doing one film a year.

The actor according to Times Of India told the students during an interaction, “After ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’, I signed about eight or nine films on the basis of stories as the directors were all new and unknown at that time. These films started bombing and I was called ‘One Film Wonder’ by the media. My career was sinking. It felt like I was in a quicksand. I was very unhappy. I used to come home and cry. It was then that I swore to myself that I won’t sign a film until I get a great director, great script and a great producer, even if meant it was end of my career.”

The Bollywood superstar already recalled how Mahesh Bhatt once approached him for a film after he had vowed to only work with good scripts and despite being a top director and him being a new actor he turned down the offer. Aamir explained that he wasn’t too convinced about the script.

“If I had done the film with Bhatt sahab and compromised on my belief, then my entire career would have been one compromise after the other. I had my back against the wall, I was in quicksand and Bhatt sahab was giving me a hand. All I had to do was hold his hand and he would have pulled me out. But I stuck to what I believed in. I was relieved when I came home that day," Aamir told the students.

On the work front, Aamir is now working on completing work on Laal Singh Chadha, Bollywood remake of Tam Hanks’ Forrest Gump.
