I Won’t Do TV Shows Because Content Is PATHETIC; Says Mona Singh

Mona Singh is an effervescent lady who loves to experiment with a lot of new things! She is not the run of the mill actor one meets and greets! She always has this beaming smile on her face and I think somewhere deep down the lady who has no qualms playing a mother of four children onscreen has a little girl inside of her. Her laughter is infectious, when you look at her crying hysterically, tears are sure to well up in your eyes too. She is the sweet, lovable Jassi, she is Mona, Piu’s elder sister in 3 Idiots, she is Paridhi fighting evil in a bid to save her husband in Kavach and she is also Ananya who is lovestruck for a married man in Kehne Ko – She is all of these and yet our very own MONA!

The beautiful lady is now geared up for her next web-series Yeh Meri Family produced by TVF. The show promises its viewers to take them down the memory lane! Mona who is playing a mother in the series is very pepped up for it.

Desimartini.com got in touch with Mona and spoke to her at length about the future of webseries’, her next TV stint and a lot more…

Yeh Meri Family happens to be her second outing after Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai and the lady really feels the web series phenomenon is here to stay, Quipped she, “It is a validation for the fact that web is the new thing in India, it is a validation for the fact that content will rule and it is also a validation for the fact that people do watch the shows they really want to see.

We all know Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai was a huge hit, it is quite obvious expectations would be humongous from  Mona's next as well. However, it seems that Mona is quite indifferent to it. She feels that things will take their own course and that whatever is destined to happen will happen. Asserted she, “I don’t expect for things to happen, when you are sure of the content you know it will sell, sometimes what happens is - the reach becomes a problem, when you know, you have a good show in hand, yet with the release, the channel or the timings, the show fails to work - but if your story is good, it will work. With digital, the show is there forever, therefore the need to consume it the day it is launched is not there. There are people even today messaging me about KKHH, though it released in March. There is no timeline as such. It becomes a word of mouth thing. News travels and then people watch it. I hope something of that sort happens.

The lady who is more than opinionated thinks that in any web series the use of sexuality should be done when it is the need of the script, she asserts, “People misconstrue the fact that just because there is no restrictions on the platform, you can make things like that. You have to justify it in your story, if there are sexual scenes or abuses, you have to put them in a way that people understand why they are there. For instance, I really enjoyed watching Lust Stories. I don’t think there is anything sexual where people shouldn’t agree to. I love it. I also watched The Test case. In Tripling, there were some abuses here and there but then all of  them were well justified, as long as the story works around the premise, it is fine.”

All said and done a show like Yeh Meri Family is very new for TVF. It is a web series that caters to the family audience. She says, “They have created a family show which the entire family can sit and watch together. I think that very idea is brilliant. Just because it is digital it doesn’t have to be sexual.

The lady who has starred in a lot many TV shows as a leading face refuses to be part of the TV serials that are being created now. She thinks the television stories iare not good enough and only wants  amazing content. She hollered, “If I am coming back on TV it better be good otherwise I am not coming back. TV is not churning out good content now at all. It might happen later but right now it is bad… Really bad. There is this phase that comes into tv in the 90s it was excellent, in the early 2000 it was very good but then it dropped. It is because of the bad content on TV I have disconnected my cable as well.
