7 Issues That Fanney Khan Talks About But Never Resolves!

Fanney Khan had been one of the most awaited films of the year. In fact, the film was supposed to clash with Race 3 this Eid but was delayed. The film brought Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anil Kapoor together after 18 years and needless to say, the excitement of the fans was palpable.

The film was also exciting because it would deal with the subject of body shaming, something that we do not see so frequently in Bollywood films. But it looks like the film had too many issues at hand to deal with and give them a proper closure.

To be honest, one of the biggest flaws of the film lay on its execution. It was utterly lazy, sloppy and superficial enough to ruin the entire feel. The film, in its course of run time, talked not just about one, two but as many as 7 issues.

Here are all the things that the film raises a question about, but never gives a closure to:

    1. Body Shaming:

This is probably one of the most prominent issues that the film raises. The film centres around Fanney Khan's interest to make his daughter, Lata, famous. Lata Sharma, played by the debutant Pihu Sand, is an overweight girl. So wherever, she goes, she is judged for her weight instead of her talent.

But come on, the film over stresses on it so much so that you feel it is silly. She participates in a talent hunt contest where judges say, "Isse Accha toh tumhare Ma Baap tumhara naam P.T.Usha rakh lete, bhaag to leti!" Seriously, like seriously guys? Also, was it sorted by the end of the film? Well, by a sudden change of mentality that took 3 minutes!

    2. Poverty

The film also highlights how poverty can weigh upon people. Fanney aka Prashant worked for a factory which closes suddenly, inching him closer to desperation. He is jobless but has to live up to the expectations of his family. He doesn't share his ordeal with his family and starts working as a taxi driver.

There is a lot of problematic things that are shown in connection with his monetary condition. He takes up unprescribed sleeping pills and even kidnaps a famous star. Yes, as ridiculous as it might sound, they actually showed this. Not sure if that was the message they wanted to convey.

    3. How poor has to pay up for the rich

In the film, it is shown that the factory that Fanney Khan works at is closed because the owner was unable to pay the bank loan and has fled to London. This is probably the only real thing shown because no attempt to show a closure is made. This is quite a reflection of the times we live in.

    4. Casting Couch

The film talks about the point of casting couch in the industry. In the film, Aish's Baby Singh says that talent speaks louder than anything and makes it a point that things like casting couch exist because people give in. Yes, maybe. But can casting couch be denied altogether anyway?

    5. Ugly fight for TRPs

The film also shows how producers scheme to make a show hit. The manager, Kakkad, frames the naive Prashant so as to get eyeballs for his show. He walks away scot-free by the end of the film. Such poetic justice, I must say!

    6. Intentional wardrobe malfunction

Aishwarya's character is also asked to be a part of an intentional wardrobe malfunction to grab attention and make the show a hit. Baby Singh naturally gets furious and rejects the idea. That never happens. But was it really necessary to bring this up here?

    7. Kashmir issue

Well, surprise surprise. The film has a passing mention of the Kashmir issue as well because Rajkummar Rao's Adhir is from Kashmir. Well, he does not know the whereabouts of his father, who has been missing. In fact, he doesn't know if he is even alive. This points out to the grave situations of the Kashmiris where they had been picked up at random and went missing. But why was this even brought in this film anyway?
