EXCLUSIVE: It Will Be A Treat To Watch Javed Jaffery And Vijay Raaz In Lupt; Says Director Prabhuraj

Horror films in India are the same run of the mill laced with black magic and ‘Purani Havelis’ so much so that it has become a cliché and as far as Bollywood is concerned, horror films don’t quite live up to the expectations precisely because we are so full with the western horror flicks. Therefore, it is a normal human tendency to kind of compare the Bollywood horror flicks to their western counterparts and that is when Hindi horror films fall flat on the face.

However, this time with the horror flick Lupt directed by Prabhuraj, things are set to change the film that is produced by Mr Hanwant Khatri and Mr Lalit Kiri under their banner Fun Entertainments, is all set to grace the screens on 2nd November.

The movie is a supernatural thriller that marks the coming together of our two forever favourite actors, Javed Jaaferi and Vijay Raaz.

Seeing the trailer and the conceptual teasers of the movie, one thing is visible that this time both the actors who are known to make the audience roll on the floor with laughter will be seen pulling out something serious instead, probably making the audience creeping under their seats due to fear and mystery.

In a heart of hearts conversation with director Prabhuraj (who seemed extremely pepped up) he spoke at length about casting Vijay Raaz and Javed Jaffery in a horror flick when both the actors are aces when it comes to comedy. Quipped he, “I had seen Javed Jaffery in the film ‘Meri Jung’ which happened to be his debut film and he had a very intense role in the film and I loved the way he portrayed the role. I was a big fan of Javed Ji then. If you see Javed Jaffery and his persona, his voice, his stature, his dialogue delivery he is too good. I told myself I have to break his image of being a comedy actor and I had to bring out that hidden actor in him because no other director gave him that opportunity. He is also very excited for this because he knows he has done something different after almost 35 years. I am very happy when he was on board and he has done a fabulous job.

Vijay Raaz and I go back 18 years when the two of us were newcomers with the Ram Gopal Varma film called Jungle. I was a location manager. It was Vijay Raaz’s first film as well. He was at a different level in the film. I almost immediately became a fan! Offscreen he was hilarious but on screen he was completely different. He had that craft. That is why I wanted Vijay in this absolutely out of the box role. There is no comedy, very less dialogues and it is not your run of the mill horror flick. They have gone beyond that image of comedy and they have done a fabulous film. I am sure that for the fans of both the actors it will be a treat to watch them in Lupt.”

Besides Vijay Raaz and Javed Jaffery, the movie also has prominent names like Niki Walia, Karan Aanand, Rishabh Chaddha, Meenakshi Dixit.

Seeing how the techniques of camera movement, colour palette and the brilliant tool of sound designing have been utilized in the film to intensify the emotion, it sure looks like a technically sound film along with a unique storyline.

We at Desimartini feel that ‘Horror’ is a genre, that Bollywood is still lacking behind is surely making good flicks on supernatural thrillers and seeing the potential of Lupt, we believe it will shine brightly in this dark genre of horror and supernatural thrillers.
