Actress and parliamentarian Jaya Bachchan’s speech in Rajya Sabha has created ripples on social media with many Bollywood celebrities showing respect to the actress for seeking government support for the entertainment industry while slamming those who bad mouth it.

Jaya Bachchan finally took up Bollywood’s cause and without naming anyone slammed both Kangana Ranaut and Ravi Kishan for trashing the film industry and calling it ‘gutter’. “People who have made their name in this film industry have called it a gutter. I really disagree and I hope the government tells these people who have earned their earnings, name and fame in this industry to stop using such language. There are people in the film industry who are some of the highest tax payers, they are still being harassed. All kinds of promises are being made to the entertainment industry but never ever kept,” the Bollywood veteran said in her address.

Now, Richa Chadha, Taapsee Pannu, Anubhav Sinha, Sonam Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, have shown their respect to the Rajya Sabha MP and veteran actress for her assertiveness in seeking support.

Jaya Bachchan also said that not only do some of the highest tax payers come from the industry but the stars in Bollywood bring international recognition and attention. She added that the entertainment industry also lends support to government initiatives and also gives their money for welfare to the nation in times of need. She was backed by Taapsee Pannu who wrote, “For we have always stood by the initiatives, causes and awareness campaigns. It’s time for payback. Hitting the nail on its head and how ! yet again a woman from the industry spoke up”.

Anubhav Sinha wrote a tweet in Hindi sharing Jaya’s speech saying “Sending my regards to Jaya ji. Those who have never seen it, this is what a backbone looks like.”

Among those who disagree both Kangana Ranaut and Ravi Kishan were displeased by Jaya’s words. Ravi Kishan claimed he was hurt by Jaya’s speech and had expected she would back him after he addressed Bollywood’s drug problem in the Lok Sabha a day before. Instead, he was reprimanded.

Talking to ANI the actor said, “I expected Jaya ji to support what I said. Not everyone in the industry consumes drugs but those who do are part of a plan to finish the world's largest film industry. When Jaya ji & I joined, situation was not like this but now we need to protect the industry.”

Kangana Ranaut dragged in Jaya Bachchan’s son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter Shweta saying, “Jaya ji would you say the same thing if in my place it was your daughter Shweta beaten, drugged and molested as a teenage, would you say the same thing if Abhieshek complained about bullying and harassment constantly and found hanging one day? Show compassion for us also .”
