Kangana Ranaut Accused Of Copyright Infringement By Author Of Didda: The Warrior Queen Of Kashmir, Calls It 'Brazen And Hideous'

It was yesterday that Kangana Ranaut announced a new film, Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda. The film would document the life of the famous warrior queen from Kashmir, Didda, who also happens to be one of the very few female monarchs of the nation. However, shortly after the announcement, Kangana has found herself in the midst of another controversy as author Ashish Kaul has called out for copyright infringement by the actress.

Ashish Kaul is the author of the book- Didda: Kashmir Ki Yodha Rani (The Warrior Queen Of Kashmir. He has revealed that he approached the actress with the story and had wanted it to be made into a film. However, he received no replies and now, out of the blue, he found this announcement. Speaking to TOI, he said, “Is it believable by any stretch of imagination that a story and a book is being usurped by a renowned actor-turned-social activist? She may even turn around and claim that Didda is a historical figure, which is true except the fact that no historian in the world, apart from Kalhan who wrote just two pages on her, and me, who has spent six years on research and documentation, who have information on her. I am deeply aghast that a person as aware, knowledgeable, and apparently a nationalist and a voice for causes, has chosen to belittle her image so."

He further went on to say, "She has blatantly violated my sole rights; it is illegal and an absolute violation of the IPR and copyright laws of the same country that she swears by. I find it so brazen and hideous and I am still inclined to believe that Kangana has been misguided.”

Kangana Ranaut took to social media to announce the film yesterday. We wonder what she would have to say about these accusations.
