Kangana Ranaut Revisits The Acid Attack Horror On Sister Rangoli, Says She Did ‘Tacky Films’ To Afford Her Surgeries

It is not a new fact for those who have even the slightest knowledge of Bollywood that Kangana Ranaut’s sister and manager Rangoli Chandel is an acid-attack survivor. She had herself opened up about her ordeal on social media and had revealed that she had to undergo as many as 54 surgeries and yet suffers from problems till date. Rangoli had also revealed that Kangana had been like a pillar during these times and that she was even beaten up. Kangana promoted Deepika Padukoen starrer Chhapaak for this reason. Now, while promoting her upcoming film Panga, she revisted the horrors of the attack and how they, as a family, overcame it.

Talking to Mumbai Mirror, the actress revealed that she was just 19 years old when this happened and that she had a difficult times coming to terms with the ‘perverse, sexist cruelty’. She said,

“It was horrific! You hurt if your loved one gets even a scratch or a pimple, so, you can imagine the kind of pain one w would feel to see their face melt. Outward appearance is far more important to a woman than a man, and taking that away from her is a fool-proof way of isolating her from the world. I was just 19, on the threshold of a bright career, when the attack happened and it was a long, hard struggle to deal with this kind of perverse, sexist cruelty.”

She also revealed that she did whatever came in her way to be able to help Rangoli. Kangana added, “Financially too, I was not strong back then. Girls around me would feel depressed by a bad hair day or because a meal was not to their liking. I was grappling with something far more real and yet had no time to sit and cry. I did tacky films, took on roles I did not deserve, accepted guest appearances, so my sister could be treated by the best surgeon in India. It took 54 surgeries.”

Well, seems like she had been hardened by the experience and had become the resolute and fearless individual that she is now. Kangana Ranaut is currently at the peak of her career. She is all set for the release of Panga on 24th January. She will next be seen in Dhakad and in the Jatyalalitha biopic, Thalaivi.
