Kareena Kapoor Khan: “21 Years Of Working Would Not Have Happened With Just Nepotism”

The gorgeous Kareena Kapoor Khan is undoubtedly one of the most popular, sought-after and adored actresses of the Hindi film industry. Belonging to the prestigious ‘Kapoor Khandaan’ of Bollywood, the beauty began her journey in cinema 20 years ago with J. P. Dutta’s war film Refugee opposite Abhishek Bachchan. She went on to win the audiences’ heart and made a mark in the industry with spectacular performances in films such as Asoka, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Chameli, Omkara, Jab We Met and Udta Punjab among many others.

In a recent chat with Barkha Dutt, Bebo opened up about the infamous nepotism debate and being an “insider”. She shared, “21 years of working would not have happened with just nepotism. It is not possible. I can take a long list out of superstars’ children for whom it’s not been able to happen for them that way.” The actress further stated that even a doctor’s son would like to be like their parents. Talking about the advantages of privilege, Kareena shared that she does not feel she got anything because of her background. She stated, “It might sound weird but probably my struggle is there. My struggle is there but it isn’t as interesting as somebody who comes with just Rs 10 in his pocket in a train. Yeah, it’s not been that and I can’t be apologetic about it.”

Kareena also spoke about how it’s the audience who chooses a star. The actress explained, “The audience has made us, no one else has made us. Same people pointing fingers are the ones who have made these nepotistic stars right? Aap jaa re ho na film dekhne? Mat jao. Nobody has forced you. So I don’t understand it. I find this whole discussion is completely weird. The idea is that today so many of our biggest stars who you have chosen whether it is Akshay Kumar or Shah Rukh Khan or Ayushmann Khurrana or Rajkummar Rao, they are all outsiders.” Kareena stated that they are successful actors because they have worked hard. She added, “Whether it is Alia Bhatt or Kareena Kapoor, we have also worked hard. You are watching us and enjoying our films. So, it's the audience that makes or breaks us.”

On the work front, the beauty will next shine on the big screen in the comedy drama Laal Singh Chaddha, opposite Aamir Khan, after which she will star in Karan Johar’s multi-starrer period drama Takht.
