Kartik Aaryan’s Freddy to take the digital route; here’s why Ajay Bahl is no longer a part of the project

A few months ago, soon after Kartik Aaryan parted ways with Karan Johar’s Dostana 2, reports suggested that the actor has walked out of Ajay Bahl’s Freddy. But much to our delight, it was recently revealed that Kartik is still very much a part of the project, which will go on floors today. However instead of Bahl, Veere Di Wedding director Shashanka Ghosh will be helming the film and Ekta Kapoor will be co-producing it. Well, latest buzz now suggests that Freddy may take the digital route.

In a report shared by Bollywood Hungama, a source was quoted saying, “Freddy is an edge of the seat romantic thriller and the makers are using complex screenplay technique to explore the subject. The entire team, including Kartik, Ekta, and Shashanka feel that the subject is meant for the digital medium as that's where it will find its audience.” The source further explained that in the pandemic times experimental cinema might not get acceptance from audience on the big screen.

Meanwhile, in a chat with ETimes, Bahl revealed why he is no longer a part of the project. He shared, “The makers of the film wanted to start shooting next month and Kartik's dates and my unavailability during those dates was the reason things didn’t materialize. I am shooting ‘Blurr’ with Taapsee till early September, it was mutually decided between me and Jay Shewakramani, the producer and also a friend, that he should go ahead with the project. I wish good luck and happy times to the team.”

While earlier reports suggested that Katrina Kaif has been signed opposite Kartik, no official confirmation has been made yet. Who do you think will be roped in as the leading lady in Freddy?
