Kabir Singh was undoubtedly one of the most talked about films of 2019. Featuring the gorgeous Kiara Advani and the very handsome Shahid Kapoor, it became the second highest grossing Bollywood film of the year and the lead actors were lauded for their powerful performances and fantastic chemistry. However, Sandeep Vanga’s romantic drama received mixed reviews and is till date criticized for glamorizing misogyny and toxic masculinity by many. Well, Kiara aka Preeti Sikka feels that sometimes the audience gets a little too hard on certain films.

Talking about the same in a chat with Anupama Chopra, Kiara shared that Shahid and she knew what they were getting into when they signed the film. They were aware of what would come with it and she felt the film was ‘so real and so flawed’. Kiara went on to share that all the backlash was exhausting but also feels one can’t disrespect the intelligence of the audience. The director had a different perspective, actors had different opinions and the audiences were divided.

Kiara further stated, “On some level, there were things that were raised in the debate (around the film) that were actually healthy... Somewhere we get really hard on certain films, and I don’t know if it was that fair to be that hard on this film.” The actress also wonders that had the audience seen Preeti’s life when she goes missing in the second half, maybe they would get some sort of justification. She added, “Maybe had the audience seen what she went through when the separation happened would they have been so hard?”
Would your opinion of Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani’s Kabir Singh be any different if you got to know what Preeti went through in the second half of the film? It definitely is a valid point to think over.
