Kriti Sanon opens up about playing a mother in Mimi; Says ‘There’s a chhoti mummy inside me’

After proving that she is a bundle of talent with her impeccable performances in films like Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi and Raabta, the gorgeous Kriti Sanon is all set to blow us away yet again with Mimi. Helmed by Laxman Utekar, the comedy drama follows the story of a dancer from Rajasthan who agrees to be the surrogate for a foreign couple. However, mid way she is abandoned when the couple changes their mind. Well, Kriti’s new avatar in the trailer, as well as her and co-star Pankaj Tripathi’s performances, have left us wanting more!

In a recent chat with Mid Day, Kriti stated that Mimi is special to her because it’s the first film she is shouldering. She went on to share that the film does not preach about surrogacy and is based on a true incident that took place 13 years ago. It was after the foreign couple abandoned the surrogate that surrogacy laws in India became stricter. When the actress read the script, she realized that it’s a serious subject wrapped up in an entertaining world.

Talking about playing a mother on-screen, Kriti shared, “It didn’t cross my mind until I heard people saying, ‘You shouldn’t play a mother so early in your career’. I don’t think [such notions] matter. My producer Dinoo [Dinesh Vijan] was surprised to see how well [my performance] shaped up. Women have a maternal instinct. I’m [protective] of my younger [sister], so there’s a chhoti mummy inside me.”

Mimi is all set to premiere on Netflix on 30th July. Who are you going to watch the film with?
