Laal Singh Chaddha: Atul Kulkarni Says Aamir Khan Didn't Believe He Wrote A Good Script, Said Yes Within 30 Seconds After Reading It

Atul Kulkarni is an actor par excellence, but he is an excellent writer as well. He has penned the script of Laal Singh Chaddha. While it's an adaptation of Forest Gump, he worked on it and says that it had been ready 10 years back. In a recent interview, he has opened up about why it took so long for the film to be made.

Talking to Bollywood Hungama, he said that Aamir initially just did not believe that he could write a good script. He said, "It has been a really long, long journey, because I had written it almost 10 years back and Aamir took a couple of years because he did not believe that I must have written a good script. So he did not want to hurt me. We used to meet but he never heard the script. After a couple of years he heard the script and within 30 seconds he said I am going to do the film."

After that, it was a task to acquire the rights for the adaptation. Atul Kulkarni added, "For the last 7-8 years we were trying for the rights because it is completely based on Forrest Gump. It is an adaptation of the film. We could not get the rights. Aamir made multiple trips to LA and he met the studio bosses and a lot of other people. But after 7-8 years we got the rights. We have started the shoot. I think we have completed 60-70 percent of the shoot. But now because of corona the shooting has stopped and we hope to complete it soon.”

The film was to release in Christmas this year, but would now be pushed. We are excitedly waiting for the film that will have Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead.
