Legendary Khayyam Saab Hails Rekha As The Ultimate Umrao At The Premiere Of Umrao Jaan, The Musical

Ever since Umrao Jaan, the musical has been announced, the curiosity was high and finally, the musical opened with a house packed audiences in Mumbai on Tuesday i.e. May 21st, 2019 at a theatre in one of the Mumbai suburbs.

The red carpet of the musical saw who’s who of Bollywood and TV industry. Composer duo Salim-Sulaiman along with the entire cast and crew of Umrao Jaan opened the media panel. They said, “We have been a huge fan of Umrao Jaan since 1981. It was a dream for us to create a musical on the backdrop of a struggle of a courtesan. We have worked really hard on it and are so emotional and proud to see a packed house at the premiere.”

Khayyam Saab who had directed the music for Muzzafar Ali’s original film was present and he relived a few of his memories of working with the cast and crew, hailing Rekha to be the ultimate Umrao!

Others who attended the premiere were singer Talat Aziz, Sonu Nigam, Aftab Shivdasani, Aditi Gautam, Shreyas Talpade, and Kabir Bedi. Others from television joined were very popular Karanvir Singh Bohra, Drashti Dhami, Sanaya Irani, Kinshuk Mahajan, Maninder Singh, Urvashi Dholakia, Juhi Parmar and many more.

The musical will have 10 shows in the capital, New Delhi between May-June 2019.
