Sushant Singh Rajput’s death has started a conversation about the stressful work environment in Bollywood with many celebrities speaking about their struggles to cope up with the high standards. Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar says that in the midst of this all he’s been getting messages telling him that everything he captured in his film ‘Heroine’ about the industry is all true.

Speaking to Times of India the filmmaker says that when his Kareena Kapoor starrer Heroine release in 2011 he had received a lot of flak from the industry for the film’s close resemblance to reality. He told the publication,”After Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise, people on social media are telling me whatever I had shown in the movie ‘Heroine’ is true. I have shown in the film what actors go through, how they fight their own battles, the PR things and all.”

Talking about the response from Bollywood itself Madhur added, “When I made the movie, people in the film fraternity got very upset with me. According to them, I had taken a lot of things from real life. But the same people appreciated me and my work when I made it in other fields. But I had to be true to my craft. What I showed in ‘Heroine’ is 95 percent true. I am an honest filmmaker and I stand by the kind of work that I have done in my career. I don’t belong to any lobby or camp.”

Madhur has been widely appreciated from films like Chandani Bar and Fashion. Heroine however failed to work at the box office despite a headliner like Kareena Kapoor.
