Maidaan Vs. RRR: Boney Kapoor Reveals Ajay Devgn, SS Rajamouli's Reactions To Dussehra Clash Of The Two Big Films

Two large scale films of Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn hang in the balance on Dussehra this year as makers of both RRR and Maidaan have picked the holiday to release their films. Producer of Ajay’s sports drama Maidaan, Boney Kapoor, is now fuming at the makers of RRR for their ‘unethical’ announcement of S.S. Rajamouli's film.

Boney says he set the release date of his film six months in advance and Rajamouli and makers of his film didn’t even bother consulting him before setting the same release date. The producer feels that at a time when the industry needs to stick together a clash at the box office and screens divided means that both films suffer. Both Maidaan and RRR are pan Indian films and will be releasing in multiple languages.

On the other hand, S.S. Rajamouli who announced the release date of his much awaited period drama on Monday seems resolute about the decision made by the producers of his film and is sticking to the 13 October release as of now. Talking about his chat with the Bahubali filmmaker Boney told IANS, "I did call him and he explained to me that deciding the release date was in the hand of the producer. I am a producer and I know that when we take a call, we discuss with the director, lead actor and other team members first."

According to Boney, Ajay Devgn who stars in both projects on learning about the clash asked makers of RRR to consult with the Maidaan producer. "Ajay got to know about the date clash and he suggested to the makers (of RRR) to have words with me because my date was announced much earlier. But nobody made a call to talk to me. Rather, I called up Rajamouli to find a way so that both the film found space. But his response was a mere formality," said Boney.

Boney Kapoor has decided on proceeding with plans to release Maidaan on Dusshera. The sports drama is a biopic on football legend Syed Abdul Rahim. RRR on the other hand, starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR along with Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt is a fictional story based on freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem.
