Months After The Controversy On Koffee With Karan, Cricketer KL Rahul Opens Up About How The Incident Affected Him

When recalling Karan Johar’s popular talk show it is hard to forget the major uproar that the controversial episode featuring cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya caused. The episode was eventually taken down from Hotstar and the show even lost some precious sponsorship. For the two cricketers the episode even resulted in a temporary ban by The BCCI. Months have passed since the controversy and finally KL Rahul has opened up about the aftermath and how it affected him.

Talking to Bombay Times about being on Koffee With Karan the cricketer revealed that he learnt that he needs to be more careful about what you say. He spoke at length about how the incident and the backlash affected him and said, “I was bitter for a bit; it affected and bothered me a lot. I was angry, but I came out of it all as a more accepting person. I understood that certain things are sensitive, and no matter what you do, certain people will find the bad in you. It was important that I spoke about it with those close to me, and I was happy to be in my little bubble — friends and cricket.”

The social media backlash is what essentially led to the controversy and for KL Rahul it meant going back to his own bubble. The cricketer now chooses to remain his own space now and focus more on his profession while being more aware of his surroundings. “I need to focus more on cricket, spend more time in the gym, on the field — practicing and training. It made me more focussed on my profession and what I really need to do. As I told you before, cricket is the only thing I am good at and there’s nothing else I can do to survive, so I need to give it all I have. I am way too into it, I can’t have a plan B now. I am 27 years old,” he added.

KL Rahul, however, was less on the radar but Hardik Pandya comments on the show were the highlight of the controversy. Speaking about how the situation affected their equation Rahul went on to say, “We switched off from the outside world for those few weeks. We learnt from the situation, accepted it, and now we are back to being good friends. We literally spend 300 days together... traveling and playing cricket. Hardik is still a good friend and we enjoy each other’s company.”

The controversy may now be water under the bridge but it certainly was a life-changing moment for the two cricketers and the fans of the talk show.
