Martin Scorsese’s latest directorial, The Irishman has managed to create quite stir among the cinema lovers all over the world. The film has already been nominated for the Oscars and has five nominations at the Golden Globe Awards, but somehow, that is not all.

An announcement made by the leading digital streaming platform Netflix says that the film has been watched by more than 26 million in the first week itself. The figure includes those who have watched at least 70% of the 3 and a half-hour-long film and if the Netflix data is to be believed then it would be the most-watched Oscar contender of the year.

Although Netflix does not take third part surveys into account, an independent survey by AC Nielsen had also placed the average viewership of the film at 13.2 million in the first five days of its streaming and that is from the US alone. This means about one in five Netflix users in the USA watched on the streaming platform.

The film starring Hollywood legends such as Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci has also had a splendid run at the US box-office upon its release and had managed to rake in about 126 million dollars.
