Mr. Lele: Shashank Khaitan Reveals Why The Film Was Shelved, Says 'I Kept Feeling Something Is Not Right'

Shashank Khaitan had faced quite a bit of setback as a director. Two of his upcoming films, where he would have collaborated once again with Varun Dhawan, were shelved. Yes, we are talking about Rannbhoomi and Mr. Lele. While he had revealed that Rannbhoomi was shelved because the budget shot up and was humungous, it was rumoured that Mr. Lele hit the backburner because of the unavailability of dates of Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor. Now, he has opened up about it too.

Talking to Mid-Day, Shashank calls the shelving of the film a 'blessing in disguise' and adds that it would be revived at the right time. He said, "As per our original plan, we were supposed to start filming on March 13. It (suspension of shoots] was announced on March 15. So, the stalling of our film was a blessing in disguise; otherwise, we would have ended up spending a lot more on the pre-production."

He further added, "We were not able to form a flow for the shoot. It was a small film that was to be based in Mumbai, but things were not falling in place. I kept feeling that something is not right. Since Karan (Johar, producer), Varun and I collectively felt it, we decided to hold off the project for the time being."

We hope that the project is revived soon. The film was first offered to Kiara Advani, alongside Varun and Janhvi, but when she refused, it went to Bhumi Pednekar. It was later shelved.
