Mukesh Khanna Reacts After Receiving Flak For Sexist Me Too Remark: I Was Only Talking About The Responsibilities Of Women

Actor Mukesh Khanna’s views on the Me Too movement as stated in an interview have now gone viral and have been inviting criticism. Well known for his roles in Mahabharat and Shaktiman Mukesh had said during in an interaction that women trying to rub shoulders with men is the reason why the Me Too movement came into being and added that a woman’s job is to run the household.

After the clip went viral the actor was heavily criticized for his misogynistic views. Mukesh has now in a series of tweets shared his full interview stating in his defense in a series of tweets that his comment was blown out of proportions and that he isn’t against women working.

He wrote, “I am surprised that a statement made by me has been blown out of proportion. It’s being said I am against women. I don’t think anyone else respects women as much as I do. That is why I went against the title of Laxxmi Bomb. I am worried about women and their security.”

“I have spoken against every rape case. A clip of my interview has gone viral. I have never said that women should not work. I was just stating the reason why MeToo began. Women in our country have excelled in various fields be it Defence Minister, Finance Minister, Foreign Minister or space. So, how can I go against them? I was not saying that MeToo happens because women go outside. I was only talking about the responsibilities of women and men.”

“My career is an example of the fact that I have always respected women. I apologise if I have hurt any women’s sentiments, and for not being able to put up my views the right way.”

The actor’s interview with Filmy Charcha ignited the controversy where he had said, “The problem of #MeToo began when women started working. Aurat ka kaam hai ghar sambhalna, jo maaf karna mein kabhi kabhi bol bhi jata hu (The job of a woman is to take care of the house). Problem kaha se shuru hui hai #MeToo ki jab aurato ne bhi kaam karna shuru kar diya (The problem of #MeToo began when women started working). Aaj aurat mard ke saath kandhe se kandha milane ki baat karti hai (Today, women talk about walking shoulder-to-shoulder with men).”
