Neha Bhasin On Being Fat Shamed: I Do Not Condone Starvation, Low Esteem Because Actresses Have Washboard Abs

Singer Neha Bhasin has opened up on social media about her early days in the entertainment world and recalled how she was fat shammed during her Viva days. In a series of posts Neha voiced her concerns about fat shamming and said that despite putting on weight during quarantine she’s never felt sexier.

The singer posted a picture from a recent shoot and wrote, "I was 49 kgs in Viva and I was fat shamed everyday. I am 65kgs here. I put on weight in quarantine and I have never felt sexier. Weight is a number you can change but shaming one self is damaging and toxic. Sex appeal is not in your body parts. It's in you."

In other posts Neha continued her argument and wrote, "Sex appeal in not in your size, it's in you. Be you.", She added, “Sexist exotic lady of all times #matahari didn't have abs. It's time we embrace human bodies in their natural form. I am all for fitness but I do not condone fat shaming, starvation, low esteem because actresses have washboard abs. Judging oneself and others, fake beauty standards, lies on social media by women who may have had procedures, put out wrong messages."

Neha debuted in the music industry as a part of an all girl band Viva in 2002 after winning a talent show. Singers Seema Ramchandani, Pratichee Mohapatra, Mahua Kamat, and Anushka Manchanda were also members of the pop band. Bhasin went solo after the group disbanded.
