Nikhil Dwivedi Says Casting Janhvi Kapoor As Nagin After Her Mother Sridevi 'Would Be A Little Gimmicky'

Sridevi’s Nagina remains one of her most memorable films from the 80’s and with the fantasy drama concept of Naagins ready to take off once again on the big screen with Sharddha Kapoor in the lead. With a film franchise around a shape shifting Nagin already announced by producer Nikhil Dwivedi one can’t help but wonder what it would have been like if Janhvi Kapoor took over the mantle of her mom Sridevi’s iconic role.

Speaking on the subject Nikhil spoke to PeepingMoon.com and revealed why casting Janhvi in the project was a feasible idea. He says, "Janhvi (Kapoor) is doing very well. I think she excelled in Gunjan Saxena. But just to cast somebody’s son or daughter because their parent has done a particular part, I think it would be a little gimmicky. Unless they really fit in and I am not saying Janhvi doesn’t fit this part, perhaps Sridevi Ji might have done but Shraddha (Kapoor) was the first choice right from the beginning."

Having put that idea out of the picture the producer of this exciting project also revealed why the makers found Shraddha to be the perfect fit for the part. Nikhil feels that the Stree actress has the quality of transforming from a girl next door to a sensuous woman at the drop of a hat and that is why she was roped in from a sea of other actresses.

The film will be directed by Vishal Furia. Further details on this three film franchise are still awaited.
