The Non Glamorous Qualities That Make Us Fall Deeply In Love With Arijit Singh - The Person

Arijit Singh’s passion for music and his magic voice make him the most sought after singer in Bollywood. But despite the tag of being a mega celebrity Arijit Singh carries a demeanor that brings him closer in personality to any introvert you might know in real life than any glamorous Bollywood celeb you can think of. Being shy though is not the only reason why we believe he is the most down to earth celebrity of the glamour world which is prone to being on camera all the time. It is for these 10 simple reasons why he is the humble Bollywood breakthrough celebrity.

The Non Glamorous Qualities That Make Us Fall Deeply In Love With Arijit Singh - The Person

He hates being a celebrity – In an interview with Forbes in 2014, Arijit had made a simple point as to why he is not exceptionally fond of the celebrity tag. “I came into music because I loved it, not because I wanted to be famous. My singing career happened by fluke,” he had said. How many people in the industry do we know who continue to strive for the craft and not the fame that it brings? Probably a handful, and it is his real passion for music that sets him apart from the herd.

No fusion music – “I am a purist when it comes to songs. I don’t like much experimentation.” We have seen so many singers try all things bizarre to score a hit song but set them all aside and there you have Arijit Singh who comes from a classical music background and has vouched to himself to stay away from fusion music. He never sang a song that would offend someone or has crass lyrics.

Humility – Soon after he finished Fame Gurukul in 2005 and moved to Mumbai, he signed an album with Kumar Turani who paid him monthly installments of his payment that helped the singer get by some early days of struggle. But when the album wasn’t recorded until 2007, he refused all the payment and started freelancing. In an interview with Times of India he had revealed, “I finished Fame Gurukul in 2005 and then settled in Mumbai in 2006. From 2006-07, I was paid every month by Kumar Taurani’s music company since I was doing an album with them. The album didn’t release till 2007. So I went to Kumar Ji and said, “The album is not happening for whatever reason, so don’t pay me because if I am not working there is no point taking money every month.” So I refused money from them and started freelancing. Then my real struggle started.”

Motivated to make a difference – He started his own NGO called Let There Be Light to make a difference to the lives of the people below the poverty line. He has also used his music to aid the Ngo and has been very clear on the fact that it does not look like a place where dumps his exorbitant paycheques. “Generally NGOs have got a bad reputation because people think it’s meant to siphon off money. I want to get out of that zone” the singer had proclaimed in his chat with TOI.

Attachment to roots  – Arijit startled one an all when years after he became a music sensation, he revealed that he still doesn’t own a car. In the same interview, he had made this rather humble revelation, “I still travel by public transport. I take autos to travel to and fro recordings. When in Calcutta, I take a train to go to Murshidabad and then take a cycle rickshaw to my house.” He is also deeply attached to his hometown Murshidabad where he freely roams around without the fear of public scrutiny, he stated that it is the only place he can really unwind.
